Best Paper Award in the 2017 IEEE International Conference on Software Quality, Reliability and Security (QRS 2017)

Mr Solomon MENSAH, a CS PhD student, together with his supervisor Dr Jacky KEUNG, received the Best Paper Award for their co-authored paper titled "Investigating the Significance of Bellwether Effect to Improve Software Effort Estimation" in the 2017 IEEE International Conference on Software Quality, Reliability and Security (QRS 2017) held in Prague, Czech Republic in July 2017.

Best Student Paper Award in the 11th International Conference on Simulated Evolution and Learning (SEAL 2017)

Mr Jialong SHI, a CS PhD student, together with his supervisor Prof Qingfu ZHANG and three co-authors from France, received the Best Student Paper Award for their paper titled "Using Parallel Strategies to Speed up Pareto Local Search" in the 11th International Conference on Simulated Evolution and Learning (SEAL 2017) held in Shenzhen, China in November 2017.

Third Prize in the 15th Challenge Cup - National College Students' Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Contest

Mr WONG Nok Ching and Mr XU Yaohai, 2017 graduates of BSc Computer Science, won the Third Prize in the 15th Challenge Cup - National College Students' Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Contest for their project titled "FastLSH: A Similarity Search Engine on High-Dimensional Big Data", under the supervision of Dr Sarana NUTANONG.

Third Place Award in the Digital China and HKUST-BDI Cup “Smart City in Hong Kong” Competition 2017

Two BScCS students, Mr CHONG Wai Man and Mr WU Wing Hong, won the Third Place Award in the Digital China and HKUST-BDI Cup “Smart City in Hong Kong” Competition 2017 for their project titled “Project-City,” which aimed to develop a Fire Services Information System to facilitate the command and control work of fire and rescue services. The winning team received a cash prize of HKD 2,000.

Second Runner-up in BOCHK FinTech Hackathon 2018

Three BScCS students, Mr THIAGARAJAN Kowshik Balaji, Mr CHENG Ho Wang Andreas and Mr LIANG Qiyuan, together with two students from AP and EE, won the Second Runner-up in the Tertiary Group of BOCHK FinTech Hackathon 2018 for their proposal titled “PocketIn”. The cross-disciplinary team aimed to solve the challenge of money management and maintaining personal portfolios by using an intelligent AI financial assistant.

Runner-up in PwC Hackaday CTF

Two students of BSc Computer Science, LAI Wing Hang and CHIK Ho Ming, together with a student from EE, HUI Kam Leung and a student from IS (doing a minor in CS), SUNG Hiu Tung were Runners-Up in the 2nd PwC Hackaday competition. The competition tested the skills and knowledge of participating teams in four hacking categories: Network, Web, Binary and Internet-of-Things.

Second Prize in Intel Cup Undergraduate Electronic Design Contest 2018

CS students in the "2018 Intel Cup Undergraduate Electronic Design Contest - Embedded System Design Invitational Contest" held in Shanghai in July. Under the supervision of Dr Chee Wei TAN, six CS Year-3 students formed two teams and each team won the Second Prize in the Contest.

Excellent Paper Award in ISET 2018

Three PhD students, Ms Qing MI, Mr Xiupei MEI and Ms Yan XIAO, together with their supervisors Dr Jacky KEUNG and Dr Wing Kwong CHAN, received the Excellent Paper Award for their co-authored paper titled "A Gamification Technique for Motivating Students to Learn Code Readability in Software Engineering" in the 4th International Symposium on Educational Technology (ISET 2018) held in Osaka, Japan on 31 July - 2 August 2018.

IEEE IES Students and Young Professional Paper Assistance Award in ISIE 2018

Mr Umair Mujtaba QURESHI, a CS PhD student, received the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society Students and Young Professional Paper Assistance (IES-SYPA) Award for his paper titled “Problem of Wireless Fingerprint Duplication in Fingerprinting based Indoor Localization” in the 27th IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics (ISIE 2018) held in Cairns, Australia on 13-15 June 2018. This paper was co-authored with Ms Zuneera UMAIR, another CS PhD student and his supervisor Dr Gerhard Petrus HANCKE.

Silver Medal in the ACM-ICPC Chinese Collegiate Programming Contest 2018

A team of BSc Computer Science students comprising Mr WANG Fangzhou, Miss ZHENG Wanying and Mr ZHAI Xingyu under the supervision of Dr Minming LI and Dr Kenneth LEE, won the Silver Medal in the 2018 ACM-ICPC Chinese Collegiate Programming Contest held in Ningxia, China.

Hosted by Ningxia Institute of Science and Technology, the Contest attracted over 135 teams from more than 75 universities in China to compete for the awards.
