The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology GBA Youth Innovation Grand Prize

Mr Xu Jiakai, a Year 3 BSc Computer Science student, along with five undergraduate students from Northeastern University, won “The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology GBA Youth Innovation Grand Prize” in the 2021 Qianhai Guangdong-Hong Kong- Macao-Taiwan Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition held in December 2021, under the supervision of Dr Shuaicheng Li.

Gold Prize in the 31st International Conference on Automated Planning and Scheduling (ICAPS 2021)

Mr Zhu Qingling, a graduating CS PhD student under the supervision of Prof Qingfu Zhang, along with Mr Junchuang Cai and Dr Qiuzhen Lin from Shenzhen University, won the Gold Prize with USD 5,000 in the Dynamic Pickup and Delivery Problem Competition organized by Huawei Technologies Ltd. in the 31st International Conference on Automated Planning and Scheduling (ICAPS 2021).  This three-month competition attracted 150 teams to develop and test their algorithms to solve the real-world problem on dynamic pickup and delivery in the logistics domain.  

HKIE Scholarship 2020/2021

Miss LIU Wei, a Year 3 BSc Computer Science student, has been selected to receive the HKIE Scholarship 2020/2021.
Established by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE), the Scholarship is awarded to three engineering undergraduate students annually to recognize their outstanding academic achievements and encourage active participation in HKIE activities. The student will receive a certificate and a total grant of HK$80,000 throughout her four years of study.

Best Paper Award in the 9th International Conference on Intelligent Biology and Medicine (ICIBM) 2021

Dr Yiqi Jiang, a 2021 PhD graduate, and Mr Shuai Wang, a PhD student, together with their supervisor Dr Shuaicheng Li, received the Best Paper Award for their co-authored paper titled “A framework to trace microbial engraftment at the strain level during fecal microbiota transplantation,” in the 9th International Conference on Intelligent Biology and Medicine (ICIBM 2021) held virtually in August 2021.

Two BSc Computer Science students won the Innovation and Technology Scholarship 2021

Mr Xavier Yeung Yuen-hei and Mr Harvey Ng Ming-hin, two BSc Computer Science students, were among the 25 winners for the Innovation and Technology Scholarship 2021 after successfully outshining many other candidates in the vigorous selection process. The students will each receive HK$150,000 for activities including overseas exchange, local internship and mentorship programmes.

A BSc Computer Student clinched the HSBC Overseas Scholarship 2021/22

Mr Harvey Ng Ming-hin, a BSc Computer Science student, was among the five awardees for the HSBC Overseas Scholarship 2021/22 after outperforming many other candidates in this highly competitive scholarship award. The student received HK$300,000 to support his studies on the joint bachelor’s degree programme at Columbia University, US. Third Prize of 2014 Intel Cup Undergraduate Electronic Design Contest - Embedded System Design Invitational Contest

CS students achieved good results in the “2014 Intel Cup Undergraduate Electronic Design Contest - Embedded System Design Invitational Contest” held in Shanghai in July. Under the supervision of Dr Chee Wei TAN, the two teams comprising three CS Year-2 students, Mr WONG Kai Hei, Miss NG Ming Wai and Mr TANG Xiaoting, together with three EE students, both received the Third Prize in the Contest.

HKIE Outstanding Paper Award for Young Engineers/ Researchers 2014

Dr Weizhi MENG, a 2013 PhD graduate, received the HKIE Outstanding Paper Award for Young Engineers/Researchers 2014 for his paper titled “Enhancing the Performance of Signature-based Network Intrusion Detection Systems: An Engineering Approach,” under the supervision of Dr L F KWOK. The award paper will be published in the special issue of the HKIE Transactions in December 2014.

Merit Award of the 11th Final Year Project (FYP) Competition 2014

Mr To TSUI, a 2014 graduate of BSc (Hons) in Computer Science, won the Merit Award for his project titled “ RegressionMaple: Regression Coverage of Concurrency Testing for Validation of Bug-Fixed Multithreaded Programs” in the 11th Final Year Project (FYP) Competition, organized by the IEEE (HK) Computational Intelligence Chapter. Supervised by Dr Ricky CHAN, Mr Tsui formulated a novel and practical framework to dynamically check whether a concurrency bug discovered in one version of a muddleheaded program may not be completed fixed in another version of the same program.
