Aims


The Cybersecurity major aims to provide a comprehensive undergraduate education with a balanced emphasis on both foundational computer science and systematic cybersecurity training. The curriculum is designed to ensure that students gain a solid understanding of the cybersecurity principles, practical skills in various security domains, and the managerial knowledge required to oversee or contribute to a cybersecurity team, all built upon a solid foundation of computer science education.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Major (MILOs)

Upon successful completion of this Major, students should be able to:

  1. apply relevant mathematics and security engineering methods to computing;
  2. use computer programming for problem solving;
  3. identify cybersecurity problems, analyze requirements and formulate design to meet realistic constraints, such as costs, operational, social, cultural, ethical, environmental, health and safety;
  4. use security engineering methods and tools for developing and implementing quality cybersecurity solutions;
  5. communicate and use language effectively;
  6. manage projects effectively and independently;
  7. apply cybersecurity knowledge in other selected area(s) of Computer Science;
  8. reflect on the ethical, legal, security and social responsibilities required of professional citizens in a global society;
  9. stay abreast of contemporary issues in cybersecurity and recognize the need for, and able to engage in life-long learning;
  10. collaborate and function effectively in team work situations including multi-disciplinary team;
  11. function effectively in an industrial environment and apply learned skills to real-world problems;
  12. acquire inquisitive attitude and skill to enable creating an original discovery or design related to computing.

    9-month security-related industrial internships to gain real-world work experience; Security-oriented Final Year Projects to apply learned skills in a practical setting; Assist students to obtain significant industrial certificates (e.g. OSCP/OffSec, CISSP).

    Guest lectures featuring case studies by security practitioners to bring latest insights to prepare students for their careers in the field
