Third Prize in the Challenge Cup National Competition Hong Kong Regional Final 2016

Mr CHOW Tak Shing, a 2016 graduate of BSc (Hons) Computer Science, and Mr XU Yaohai, a Year 3 student of BSc Computer Science, received the Third Prize for their project titled "Large-Scale Stylometric Database" in the "Challenge Cup" National Competition Hong Kong Regional Final - Hong Kong University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition 2016 in the Category of Innovation (Information Technology).

Second Prize in the 2016 Intel Cup Undergraduate Electronic Design Contest

Miss ZHANG Jialing and Mr DU Yuefeng, BSc Computer Science students, together with Miss XIE Mingying, an EE student, were awarded the Second Prize in the 2016 Intel Cup Undergraduate Electronic Design Contest-Embedded System Design Invitational Contest, held in Shanghai, China in July 2016, under the supervision of Dr TAN Chee Wei.

Best Paper Award in the 25th International Conference on Computer Communication and Networks (ICCCN) 2016

Mr Wen QI and Miss Hermine HOVHANNISYAN, CS PhD students, together with their supervisor Dr Jianping WANG, received the Best Paper Award for their co-authored paper titled 'A Generic Mitigation Framework against Cross-VM Covert Channels' in the 25th International Conference on Computer Communication and Networks (ICCCN) 2016, held in Hawaii, USA in August 2016.

ICCCN is one of the leading international conferences for presenting novel ideas and fundamental advances in the fields of computer communications and networks.

Best Paper Award in the 2016 IEEE International Conference on Software Quality, Reliability and Security (QRS 2016)

Mr Chung-Man Tang, a CS PhD student, together with his supervisors Dr Y.T. Yu and Dr W.K. Chan as well as another CS faculty member Dr Jacky Keung, received the Best Paper Award for their co-authored paper titled "DFL: Dual-service Fault Localization" in the 2016 IEEE International Conference on Software Quality, Reliability and Security (QRS 2016) held in Vienna, Austria on 1-3 August, 2016.

Best Student Paper Award in the 10th International Conference on Network and System Security (NSS 2016)

Ms Wenjuan LI, a CS PhD student, together with her supervisor Dr L F KWOK, Prof Horace IP and Dr Weizhi MENG, a CS PhD graduate, received the Best Student Paper Award for their co-authored paper titled "PMFA: Toward Passive Message Fingerprint Attacks on Challenge-based Collaborative Intrusion Detection Networks" in the 10th International Conference on Network and System Security (NSS 2016) held in Taipei, Taiwan on 28-30 September 2016.

Best Short Paper Award in the 15th International Conference on Web-based Learning (ICWL2016)

Mr LI Chen Richard, a CS PhD student, together with his supervisor Prof Horace IP and other authors, received the Best Short Paper Award in the 15th International Conference on Web-based Learning (ICWL2016) held in Rome, Italy on 26-29 October 2016. Among the authors there are academic staff from the Department of Chinese and History, and alumni from the School of Creative Media. The achievement demonstrates synergy and multidisciplinarity through fruitful inter-departmental collaboration.

Bronze Medal in the Second China Collegiate Programming Contest Finals (CCPC 2016)

A team of BSc Computer Science students comprising Mr FUNG Chung Kit, Miss ZHENG Wanying and Mr LIU Pengze won the Bronze Medal in the Second China Collegiate Programming Contest Finals (CCPC 2016) held in Ningbo, China in November 2016, under the supervision of Dr Minming LI.

Hosted by Ningbo Institute of Technology, Zhejiang University, CCPC 2016 attracted over 120 teams from more than 90 universities in China to compete for the awards.

Champion in Social Innovation (SI) CEO Competition 2017

Mr SZE Cheuk Fai Francis, a BSc Computer Science student, won the Champion in the Social Innovation (SI) CEO Competition for Tertiary Students 2017, along with three other CityU students from the Department of Information Systems and the Department of Marketing, for their business plan titled ElderTreks. The business idea is to offer local tours that hire elderly as guides and use a mobile app to let participants explore genuine community culture in different dimensions.

Jonathan L. Gross Award for Academic Excellence 2017

Mr Rudra Gopinath, a BSc Computer Science student participating in the Joint Bachelor's Degree Program between City University of Hong Kong and Columbia University. Mr Gopinath, currently studying in Columbia University after having completed three years of study at CityU, has been selected to receive the Jonathan L. Gross Award for Academic Excellence, which is awarded annually to the most distinguished General Studies major in the Department of Computer Science of Columbia University.

Third Prize in Hong Kong University Student Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition 2017

Mr WONG Nok Ching and Mr XU Yaohai, BSc Computer Science final year students, won the Third Prize in the "Challenge Cup" National Competition - Hong Kong Regional Final, Hong Kong University Student Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition 2017 for their project titled "FastLSH: A Similarity Search Engine on High-Dimensional Big Data", under the supervision of Dr Sarana NUTANONG. The awardees will receive a cash prize of HK$3,000.
