First Runner Up award in the PwC HackaDay Hackathon 2022

A team comprising four BSc Computer Science students won the 1st Runner Up award in the PwC HackaDay Hackathon held in November 2022. 

Organized by PwC Hong Kong, the HackaDay Hackathon competition is open to students in Hong Kong and Macau. Teams were given two weeks to design and implement a fully functional and secure cloud data lake infrastructure. This required building the virtual machines, network components and databases supporting the infrastructure, providing a web-based interface for auto deployment, and considering DecSecOps throughout. Submissions were judged by the PwC Hong Kong Cybersecurity and Cloud team together with representatives from AWS and Microsoft Azure.

Third Prize in the 8th Hong Kong University Student Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition

A team comprising PhD and undergraduate students from CityU, along with six students from Northeastern University, won the Third Prize in the 8th Hong Kong University Student Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition under the supervision of Dr Shuaicheng Li.

The team developed an online platform entitled “Immune Factory – Cancer Immunology”, assisted with well-designed AI algorithms to provide medical services including cancer detection, immune therapy and treatment advice. The achievement demonstrates the effective teamwork of CityU students and fruitful partnership with external collaborators.

Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award 2021

Dr Yang LIU, a 2020 PhD graduate under the supervision of Dr Zhenjiang LI, received the Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award 2021 from China Chapter of ACM Special Interest Group on Embedded System (SIGBED) for her thesis entitled “Human Behavior Sensing and Understanding with Sparse Wearable Sensors.”

Dr Liu was among the three awardees whose doctoral theses were produced between 2020 and 2021, and were recognized as of exceptional quality with important innovations in basic and applied theory and technologies in the field of Computer Science.

Silver Medal in the 46th ICPC Asia Kunming Regional Contest 2022

A team comprising Mr DAI Chenyue and Mr LI Jiaqian, BSc Computer Science students, and a student from the EE Department, won the Silver Medal in the 46th ICPC Asia Kunming Regional Contest held virtually in April 2022, under the supervision of Prof Minming LI and Dr Kenneth LEE.

The International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) is a prestigious algorithmic programming contest for college students, which challenges participants in a team setting with real-world problems with an aim to fostering collaboration and encouraging creativity. The Contest attracted more than 800 teams from over 300 universities in China, Hong Kong and Macau.
