Championship in the Natural Language Queries Challenge of the 3rd International Ego4D Workshop
Mr HOU Zhijian, a CS PhD student under the co-supervision of Dr Wing Kwong CHAN (CityU) and Prof Chong-Wah NGO (Singapore Management University), has won the championship in the Natural Language Queries Challenge of the 3rd International Ego4D Workshop, along with his collaborators from Microsoft, National University of Singapore, Sun Yat-Sen University, and Beihang University. The Workshop was held in conjunction with the 2023 IEEE/CVF Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR) in June 2023 in Vancouver, Canada.
The Challenge was competitive with more than 50 teams submitting their entries to the evaluation server. Mr Hou and his team, GroundNLQ, proposed a novel video-language framework that pushed the boundaries of ego-centric video moment retrieval via natural language. Their entry was able to achieve the best performance on every single metric by a significant margin in the leaderboard.
Championship in the Argoverse 2 Multi-agent Motion Forecasting Challenge
QCNet, a modelling framework that pushes the boundaries of trajectory prediction for autonomous vehicles to enhance safety and reliability, wins the championship in the Argoverse 2 Multi-agent Motion Forecasting Challenge at the Workshop on Autonomous Driving of the IEEE / CVF Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition Conference (CVPR) 2023. Among 100+ submissions from top teams in the previous Argoverse forecasting challenges, QCNet achieved the best performance on all metrics by a significant margin. Besides the Challenge, QCNet also ranked first on both Argoverse 1 and Argoverse 2 single-agent motion forecasting benchmarks. This breakthrough AI technology was conducted by Prof Jianping Wang and Mr Zikang Zhou, a CS PhD student, together with collaborators from Hon Hai Research Institute and Carnegie Mellon University. The paper, entitled “Query Centric Trajectory Prediction,” was published in the proceedings of the CVPR held in June 2023 in Vancouver, Canada and was featured in the Conference’s Workshop on Autonomous Driving.
The OKX Web3.0 Master Award and the JLL Building Management Metaverse Application Award 2023
With much pleasure, I would like to share with you the good news that a team comprising four BSc Computer Science students won the OKX Web3.0 Master Award and the JLL Building Management Metaverse Application Award (with a total cash prize of HK$40,000) in the HackUST 2023 held in April.
Organized by HKUST since 2014, the HackUST is an annual hackathon competition open to all students or recent graduates from any higher education institution. Its goal is to encourage entrepreneurship and innovation by offering a platform where students with diverse backgrounds and interests can work together to solve problems using creative approaches and ideas.
Web 3.0 is the global theme of the competition this year, in which 10 teams of the shortlisted finalists presented their prototypes in real time to the judging panel. Our students proposed a mobile app named "LeakLock", which addressed the issues of content centralization and trend manipulation on the internet, while utilizing the capabilities of Web 3.0 and Blockchain technologies.
