Excellent Paper Award in ISET 2018
Three PhD students, Ms Qing MI, Mr Xiupei MEI and Ms Yan XIAO, together with their supervisors Dr Jacky KEUNG and Dr Wing Kwong CHAN, received the Excellent Paper Award for their co-authored paper titled "A Gamification Technique for Motivating Students to Learn Code Readability in Software Engineering" in the 4th International Symposium on Educational Technology (ISET 2018) held in Osaka, Japan on 31 July - 2 August 2018.
ISET is an annual international conference with the main focus on the educational technology. The purpose is to bring together researchers and developers from education and computer science to advance the research and application of information and communication technology in education.
IEEE IES Students and Young Professional Paper Assistance Award in ISIE 2018
Mr Umair Mujtaba QURESHI, a CS PhD student, received the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society Students and Young Professional Paper Assistance (IES-SYPA) Award for his paper titled “Problem of Wireless Fingerprint Duplication in Fingerprinting based Indoor Localization” in the 27th IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics (ISIE 2018) held in Cairns, Australia on 13-15 June 2018. This paper was co-authored with Ms Zuneera UMAIR, another CS PhD student and his supervisor Dr Gerhard Petrus HANCKE.
ISIE is the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society’s flagship conference, this annual event is a premier international forum for researchers, developers and practitioners at the forefront of science and technology in industrial electronics. The goal of the IES-SYPA is to financially support the travel for the IEEE Students and Young Professional to attend an IES conference.
Second Prize in Intel Cup Undergraduate Electronic Design Contest 2018
CS students in the "2018 Intel Cup Undergraduate Electronic Design Contest - Embedded System Design Invitational Contest" held in Shanghai in July. Under the supervision of Dr Chee Wei TAN, six CS Year-3 students formed two teams and each team won the Second Prize in the Contest.

Hosted by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the biennial international contest provides an opportunity for undergraduate students to design a working system based on an assigned Intel embedded platform within a time frame of three months. This year, the Contest attracted 164 teams from 77 universities in the Mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, Singapore, India, Brazil, and the United States.
Runner-up in PwC Hackaday CTF
Two students of BSc Computer Science, LAI Wing Hang and CHIK Ho Ming, together with a student from EE, HUI Kam Leung and a student from IS (doing a minor in CS), SUNG Hiu Tung were Runners-Up in the 2nd PwC Hackaday competition. The competition tested the skills and knowledge of participating teams in four hacking categories: Network, Web, Binary and Internet-of-Things. Team members were awarded an opportunity of 3 month internship with PwC Hong Kong and Mainland China's Cybersecurity & Privacy team or direct entry to PwC Superday for final year students, plus part sponsorship toward the Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP) certification.
HackaDay is a Capture the Flag cybersecurity competition organised by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) for undergraduate students from universities in Hong Kong. It is aimed at increasing the general awareness of the importance of cybersecurity amongst Hong Kong’s youth and also serves as a platform to raise the competency level of new talents to better prepare them for a meaningful career in cybersecurity.
