Best Paper Award in the IEEE 3rd International Conference on Multimedia Information Processing and Retrieval (IEEE MIPR) 2020
Mr Weijing CHEN, a 2019 graduate of MSc Computer Science, together with his supervisor Dr Linqi SONG and a professor from Tianjin University, received the Best Paper Award for their co-authored paper titled “Enhancing Deep Multimedia Recommendations Using Graph Embeddings” in the IEEE 3rd International Conference on Multimedia Information Processing and Retrieval (IEEE MIPR) 2020 held virtually in August 2020. The paper was based on Mr Chen’s research work in his postgraduate studies.
The conference provides a forum for original research contributions and practical system design, implementation, and applications of multimedia information processing and retrieval.
Outstanding ICT Rising Star Award in the HKCS Outstanding ICT Women Awards 2020
Ms TO Pui Kiu Cheryl, a Year 2 BSc Computer Science student, received The Outstanding ICT Rising Star Award in the Awards Presentation Ceremony of The HKCS Outstanding ICT Women Awards 2020 (OICTWA 2020) on 5th August 2020.
Organized by the Hong Kong Computer Society (HKCS), the Outstanding ICT Rising Star Award is to acknowledge young female ICT practitioners aged 25 or below for their ICT-related achievements, active participation in ICT industry activities, and community contribution. Ms To is the recipient of the Galactic Impact Award in the NASA Space Apps Challenge 2019 held in Hong Kong for her innovative underwater robot design for ocean cleanup. She has also been actively participating in community service and made contributions to the community and non-profit organizations such as the Regeneration Society with her knowledge in ICT.
Emirates Grand Prize Winner in TartanHacks 2020
Mr Michael LIM, a Year 2 BSc Computer Science student currently on exchange at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in the USA, was awarded the Emirates Grand Prize Winner in TartanHacks 2020, organized by ScottyLabs at CMU in February 2020. Mr Lim formed a multi-cultural team with three students from CMU and other overseas universities. The collaboration led to the development of the award winning system, which tracks customers’ locations and provides various personalized services to customers in an airport through a mobile application.
The team has won a two-night trip to Dubai, where they will present their outstanding hackathon project to executives at the Emirates Airline.
International Collegiate Programming Contests (ICPC) 2019
CS students made impressive achievements in the International Collegiate Programming Contests (ICPC) 2019 under the supervision of Dr Minming LI and Dr Kenneth LEE.
A team of BSc Computer Science students comprising Mr DONG Qihua, Mr ZHAI Xingyu and Mr ZHENG Leqian won the Bronze Medal in the 44th ICPC Asia Regional Contest (Nanchang) 2019 held in Nanchang, China in November 2019.
Mr ZHAI Xingyu and Mr ZHENG Leqian, together with a PhD student from the Department of Management Sciences, also won the Bronze Medal in the 2019 ICPC Asia Hong Kong Regional Contest held in Shenzhen, China on 30 November to 1 December 2019.
