Bronze Medal in the 2018 ACM-ICPC Asia Xuzhou Regional Contest

Two BSc Computer Science students, Mr WANG Fangzhou and Mr ZHENG Leqian, won the Bronze Medal in the 2018 ACM-ICPC Asia Xuzhou Regional Contest, under the supervision of Dr Minming LI and Dr Kenneth LEE.

Hosted by China University of Mining and Technology, the Contest attracted over 275 teams from 169 universities in China to compete for the awards.

1st Runner-up in Classified Post Hackathon 2018

Three BSc Computer Science students, Mr KWOK Ping Chung, Mr LO Shu Fai and Mr NG Tsz Wing, together with two SEEM students, won the 1st Runner-up in the Media Category in Classified Post Hackathon 2018 for their project titled “ATM,” which implements new functions on recruitment websites to provide job seekers with coaching and advice on career planning. The winning team received a cash prize of HKD$5,000.

Classified Post Hackathon is a 24-hour challenge for students and fresh graduates to build effective digital solutions for large corporates, and provide a platform for participants to develop their prototype as well as meet with technology industry leaders.

Honorable Mention Award in the Graph Challenge 2018

Mr HANG Ching Nam, a BScCS student, and Mr YU Pei Duo, a CS PhD student, together with their supervisor Dr Chee Wei TAN and another author, received the Honorable Mention Award in the Graph Challenge 2018, for their co-authored paper titled “Parallel Counting of Triangles in Large Graphs: Pruning and Hierarchical Clustering Algorithms.” The paper was also published in the conference proceedings of the IEEE High Performance Extreme Computing (HPEC) 2018.

Organized by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Amazon Web Services, the Graph Challenge encourages community approaches to developing new solutions for analyzing graphs and sparse data derived from social media, sensor feeds, and scientific data to enable relationships between events to be discovered. The Challenge attracted submissions from supercomputing research groups in the United States and other countries.

Microsoft Imagine Cup National Final 2018

Three BSc Computer Science students, Mr WONG Man Fai, Miss FAN Cheuk Hang and Miss CHAN Wing Sze, won the 2nd Runner-up in 2018 Microsoft Imagine Cup National Final – Hong Kong for their project titled “Ani-Think”, which provides a mobile solution in veterinary pathology for animal sentiment analysis and disease diagnosis. The winning team received a cash prize of HKD$1,000 and is entitled to a fast-track interview opportunity to Cyberport’s entrepreneurship programmes.

Organized by Microsoft Hong Kong, the Competition provides a platform for students to present their original and innovative applications under the themes of Artificial Intelligence, Big Data and Mixed Reality.
