Prof Jun Wang received the 2019 Norbert Wiener Award for his outstanding contributions to the theory, methodology, and applications of neurodynamic optimization, and the Outstanding Contribution Award for his contribution serving as the Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics from 2014 to 2019, both from the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics (SMC) Society.
Dr Gerhard Petrus HANCKE received the J. David Irwin Early Career Award 2019 from the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IES) for “research and educational contributions and impact on secure and reliable technology for the Industrial Internet-of-Things."
The Award is to recognize young researchers who have made significant contributions to the advancement of the field of industrial electronics within the first 10 years of professional experience.
Prof Cong WANG has been selected for the fellowship award under the RGC Research Fellow Scheme (RFS) 2021/22. Prof Wang will be conferred the title of “RGC Research Fellow,” and will receive a fellowship grant of HK$5,155,380 covering a period of 60 months starting from January 2022.
Dr Cong WANG has received the IEEE INFOCOM Test of Time Paper Award 2020 for his co-authored paper titled “Achieving Secure, Scalable, and Fine-Grained Data Access Control in Cloud Computing,” published in the 2010 proceedings of the IEEE International Conference on Computer Communications (IEEE INFOCOM). The Award will be presented to Dr Wang in the opening session of IEEE INFOCOM 2020 to be held in Beijing, China in April 2020 in recognition of his outstanding achievement.
Dr Shiqi WANG has been awarded the 2020 Excellent Young Scientists Fund (Hong Kong and Macau) under the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). Dr Wang will receive a funding of RMB 1.2 million in support of his research work.
The Excellent Young Scientists Fund is granted annually to support young researchers with achievements in basic research to further conduct research in their respective fields.
Dr Linqi SONG received the Excellence Award in the Tencent AI Lab Rhino-Bird Focused Research Program 2019 for his outstanding research on Event-Based Natural Language Understanding supported by Tencent AI Lab Rhino Bird Gift Fund.
The Program aims to promote joint efforts between academia and the Tencent Corporation to undertake pioneering research in AI fields and address research problems in the industry applications.
Dr Cong WANG has been elected Fellow of the prestigious Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in the class of 2021 for his exceptional contributions to security of cloud storage and computation.
The IEEE Grade of Fellow is conferred by the Board of Directors upon a person with an extraordinary record of accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest. The total number selected in any one year does not exceed one-tenth of one percent of the total voting Institute membership.
A collaborative research project titled “High-efficiency Computing Theory and Method for Video Coding,” conducted by Professor Sam Kwong and his team members from Mainland universities, has won the 2020 Second Class Award in the Natural Science category at the Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Output Awards (Science and Technology).
Prof Jun WANG has been elected as the foreign member of the Academia Europaea in its Informatics Section, following a rigorous peer review process.
