CS alumnus (2009) won ACM SIGMM Rising Star Award 2015
ACM Special Interest Group on Multimedia (SIGMM) is pleased to present this year's Rising Star Award in multimedia computing, communications and applications to Dr. Yu-Gang Jiang.
The ACM SIGMM Rising Star Award recognizes a young researcher who has made outstanding research contributions to the field of multimedia computing, communication and applications during the early part of his or her career.
Dr. Yu-Gang Jiang has made fundamental contributions in the area of video analysis and retrieval, especially with innovative approaches to large-scale video concept detection. He has been an active leader in exploring the bag-of-visual-words (BoW) representation for concept detection, providing influential insights on the critical representation design. He proposed the important idea of "soft-weighting" in his CIVR 2007paper, which significantly advanced the performance of visual concept detection...
Best Student Paper Award in the 21st IEEE International Conference on Embedded and Real-Time Computing Systems and Applications (RTCSA 2015)
Mr Fuyang LI and Miss Mengying ZHAO, PhD students, together with their supervisor Dr Jason XUE, received the Best Student Paper Award for their co-authored paper titled 'Cooperative Code Positioning and Cache Locking for WCET Minimization' in the 21st IEEE International Conference on Embedded and Real-Time Computing Systems and Applications (RTCSA 2015).
Held in Hong Kong in August 2015, RTCSA 2015 brought together researchers and developers from academia and industry for advancing the technology of embedded and real-time systems, and their emerging applications.
Silver Award of ASM Technology Award 2015 & Champion Prize of the Young Professionals Exhibition & Competition (YPEC) 2015
Mr Zhou FANG, a 2015 graduate of BSc (Hons) Computer Science, received the Silver Award of ASM Technology Award 2015 for his project titled 'Code Visualization and Grading', under the supervison of Dr Shuaicheng LI. Mr Fang's project was highly commended for its innovation and showing expertise in many aspects. He will receive a scholarship of HK$30,000 in support of his future academic and career development.
In addition, Mr Fang won the Champion Prize, with a cash prize of HK$1,500, for his project titled 'Algorithm Visualization', in the undergraduate section of the Young Professionals Exhibition & Competition (YPEC) 2015, organized by the Younger Members Section of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Hong Kong with an aim to provide a platform for students and young engineers to present their engineering projects and ideas.
Third Prize in the 13th Guangdong Collegiate Programming Contest
Two teams of CityU students each received the Third Prize in the 13th Guangdong Collegiate Programming Contest held in May 2015, under the supervision of Dr Minming LI. One of the winning teams comprised of two BScCS Year-3 students, Mr CHAU Ka Tsun and Mr YUAN Hongning, and a BSCM Year-2 student Miss ZUO Yichen.
Led by Dr Li, a group of 21 students participated in the 5-day summer camp organized by Sun Yat-sen University (Zhuhai Campus) to have cultural exchange with local students and compete in the regional programming contest with teams from universities in Guangdong province.
