2027 IEEE CIS Outstanding Ph.D. Dissertation Award

The 2024 CS PhD graduate Prof Xiaoming Xue has won the 2027 IEEE Computational Intelligence Society (CIS) Outstanding Ph.D. Dissertation Award.

The IEEE CIS Outstanding Ph.D. Dissertation Award is a highly prestigious international recognition that honors exceptional doctoral research making a significant contribution to the advancement of computational intelligence theory and/or applications. Recipients are selected through a rigorous evaluation of the originality, quality, impact, and scholarly influence of their dissertation, as well as the quality of related publications, professional endorsements, and broader contributions to the scientific community.

ACM-HK Programming Contest 2026 – 1st Runner-Up

CS PhD student Mr Qirun Zeng and BSc Computer Science students Mr Andrei Evstafev and Mr Yachao Yan have won 1st Runner-Up in the ACM-HK Programming Contest 2026.

Organized by the ACM Hong Kong Chapter since 1991, the ACM-HK Programming Contest brings together teams from tertiary institutions across Hong Kong and Macau to compete for top honours.

IEEEXtreme 19.0 Programming Competition – 1st Place (Hong Kong Region)

BSc Computer Science students Mr Kui Wang Choi and Mr Yachao Yan have achieved 1st Place in the Hong Kong Region of the IEEEXtreme 19.0 Programming Competition.

IEEEXtreme is a prestigious global competition in which IEEE student member teams compete in a 24-hour programming challenge to solve complex problems. Despite the intense demands of the competition, with over 19,000 participants worldwide, our team demonstrated exceptional perseverance and skill in achieving this impressive result.

ACM/IEEE SenSys 2026 Best Paper Runner-up

Prof Zhenjiang Li, along with CS PhD student Mr Mingzhe Li, and PhD graduate Dr Tao Chen, have been awarded the Best Paper Runner-up for their paper titled “Longan: Ultra-Low-Power, Long-Range LoRa Receiver for LPWANs”, presented at the 2026 ACM/IEEE International Conference on Embedded Artificial Intelligence and Sensing Systems (SenSys 2026).

SenSys 2026 represents a significant milestone as a unified flagship conference that brings together SenSys, IPSN, and IoTDI into one premier platform. Its broad, interdisciplinary scope and rigorous academic standards make it a highly regarded venue for research in embedded AI and sensing systems. The integration of these communities enhances collaboration and strengthens its role as a key forum for advancing research in sensor networks, IoT, and cyber-physical systems.
