NASA Space Apps Challenge Hong Kong was successfully concluded on 4 October 2020 after an intensive 48-hour hackathon with participation of 70 students from secondary schools and tertiary institutions to address the great challenges we were facing in our times. The closing ceremony was held on campus with CityU being the sole local host for this annual global event.

The NASA international SpaceApps challenge is an annual 48 hours hackathon organized by NASA and local hosts around the globe. The challenge addresses the great challenges we are facing on Earth and in space by connecting NASA's data with coders, makers, designers and dreamers around the world. Following the success of previous years' Challenges, the Department organized the 4th Computer Science Challenge 2019, which was a fun eSport-like game tournament for secondary school students to learn computer programming and also play to learn computer science and mathematics. The Challenge came to a successful conclusion on 27 April 2019 with the winning students attending the Award Presentation Ceremony and the lecture on Artificial Intelligence and computer science innovation at CityU.
