I received a first-class (top) B.Sc. honors degree in Computer
Systems Engineering from University of Kent and a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from
University of Cambridge. I have been on the faculty of Durham University, City
University of Hong Kong, and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
My research interests include computer graphics, computer vision, and the
development of deep-learning techniques to solve computer graphics/vision
problems. The papers from my group appear in SIGGRAPH, SIGGRAPH Asia, CVPR,
ICCV, ECCV, and NeurIPS. We also
have papers in TVCG, IJCV, TPAMI, and TIP. Refer to my publications for
more information.
I serve on the Editorial Board of International Journal of
Computer Vision (IJCV)
and IET
Computer Vision.
I served as the Guest Editor of a number of journal
special issues, including ACM Trans. on
Internet Technology, IEEE Trans. on
Multimedia, IEEE Trans. on
Visualization and Computer Graphics, and IEEE Computer Graphics &
Applications. In addition, I also served on the committees of a number of conferences, including
Program Co-Chair of ACM VRST 2004 (Hong Kong),
ICWL 2005 (Hong Kong),
ICAT 2006 (Hangzhou, China),
ICEC 2007
(Shanghai, China), ACM MTDL
2009 (Beijing, China),
IEEE U-Media
2010 (Jinhua, China), and
Conference Co-Chair of CASA
2005 (Hong Kong), ACM VRST
2005 (Monterey, California),
ICWL 2007
(Edinburgh, U.K.),
ACM MTDL 2010
(Firenze - Italy),
ACM VRST
2010 (Hong Kong),
ACM VRST 2014
(Edinburgh, U.K.).
Staff recruitment: I am recruiting two types of research staff for a computer vision project:
- Postdoc (three positions): The candidates must have a PhD in AI,
computer vision or computer graphics, with good publications.
As required by the funding, the candidates should have graduated
either from Hong Kong or from a top-100 university (according to
QS (Engineering and Technology), ARWU (any engineering subject), or Times
(Engineering and Technology, Computer Science)). Salary is
HK$32,000 (+ HK$1,500 of retirement fund) per month. The contract will be for two years, initially. The
hired postdocs will have high flexibility in conducting their research projects.
- Research Engineer (two positions): The candidates should have at least
a BSc degree in Computer Science or highly-related discipline, and with
some experiences in computer vision and
deep learning. Salary is around HK$18,000 per month. The contract will be
for two years, initially.
Interested candidates may send emails, with a subject title of "Application
for the research positions in the computer vision project", to me with your CV and transcripts for reference.
PhD positions available: I am looking for motivated and hard working PhD students to join my research group in the coming year, to conduct research on computer
vision or computer graphics problems. The research focus of my group is to apply deep learning techniques to solve vision and graphics problems. (Refer to our research projects
and publications for
more information.) For September 2023 entrance, the deadline for application
is December 1, 2022. In case if you have a strong academic background, you may
apply for the Hong Kong PhD
Fellowship Scheme. If you are interested to join my research group,
please email me your CV and transcripts for consideration.
