Best Paper Award in the 5th International Conference on Big Data Computing and Communications (BigCom) 2019

Mr Luning WANG, Mr Zhongzheng TANG and Miss Qian XU, PhD students, together with their supervisors Prof Jianping WANG (Wang) and Prof Xiaohua JIA (Tang), received the Best Paper Award for their co-authored paper titled “SNIFF: A Scalable Network Inference Framework for Measuring End-to-End Performance Based on Matrix Completion” in the 5th International Conference on Big Data Computing and Communications (BigCom) 2019 held in Qingdao, China in August 2019.

BigCom is a conference for researchers and practitioners interested in Big Data analytics, management, security and privacy, communication and high performance computing.

Best VC Paper Award in the International Conference on Computer Graphics (CGI) 2019

Miss Qianhui Men, a PhD student, together with her supervisor Dr Howard Leung, received the Best VC Paper Award for their co-authored paper titled “Retrieval of Spatial-temporal Motion Topics from 3D Skeleton Data” in the 36th International Conference on Computer Graphics (CGI) 2019 held in June 2019 in Calgary, Canada.

CGI is a prestigious international conference for researchers to present their latest algorithms, models and technologies, and explore new trends and ideas on various computer graphics topics.

First Runner-up in the Young Professionals Exhibition & Competition (YPEC) 2019 and Third Prize in the 5th Hong Kong University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition 2019

Mr CHUI Chi Ho, a final year BSc Computer Science student, won the First Runner-up in the Young Professionals Exhibition & Competition (YPEC) 2019 organized by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), and the Third Prize in the 5th Hong Kong University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition 2019 organized by Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association, under the supervision of Dr Raymond WONG.

The award winning project is Navigation System for Visually Impaired Pedestrians, which combines machine learning, computer vision and indoor positioning techniques to address the daily problems encountered by the visually impaired in the absence of barrier-free facilities.

The Most Innovative Award in the PwC’s Data-lympics 2019

Two BSc Computer Science students, Mr Archit CHOUDHURY and Mr TAI Lok Yin, together with two other CityU students, won the Most Innovative Award in the PwC’s Data-lympics 2019.

Organized by the PricewaterhouseCoopers Hong Kong, the two-day competition provides an opportunity for participants to test their data science skills in discovering useful insights from large and complex datasets, with 41 teams of University students competing in these data analytics challenges.
