Visiting amazing places around Japan
Bike riding along the Kamo River
After an enriching visit to Kandevia and engaging presentations by PhD students at Kyoto University, our group - consisting of Dias, Sarbuland, Mason, and myself - craved a refreshing escape. We set our sights on the Kamo River, intending to walk to Kiyomizu Dera. Realizing the distance, we opted to rent bikes instead, eager to explore Kyoto’s natural beauty with the wind in our faces.
Cycling along the riverbank was a delight. The path offered stunning views as the breeze carried the scent of fresh water and greenery. We passed picnicking locals, playful children, and artists sketching the scenery, all adding to the vibrant yet peaceful atmosphere of the ride.
The journey itself became the highlight. We paused for photos and soaked in the tranquility. By the time we neared Kiyomizu Dera, we felt refreshed and deeply connected to Kyoto’s charm, the ride a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation.
Visiting Sannenzaka and Ninenzaka
Our day continued with a hike toward Kiyomizu Dera, a short trek up steep roads that tested our stamina. The reward was stepping into Sannenzaka and Ninenzaka, two historic streets brimming with Kyoto’s cultural heritage. Their wooden buildings and cobblestone paths transported us back in time.
Strolling through Ninenzaka, we marveled at the Hokan-ji pagoda. The streets buzzed with tourists and locals, all enchanted by the area’s timeless allure. We snapped photos, each frame capturing the elegance of traditional Japan against a backdrop of modern visitors.
A unique find was a Starbucks styled in Japanese tradition, complete with tatami mats. We ordered drinks and settled into a tatami room, savoring the fusion of contemporary comfort and historical ambiance. It was a peaceful pause to reflect on our Kyoto adventure.
Feast with all-you-can-eat yakiniku
After a full day in Kyoto, we returned to Osaka, our appetites sharpened by the day’s exertions. Dotonbori, with its electric energy and endless food options, beckoned us. We chose an all-you-can-eat yakiniku restaurant, ready to indulge and recharge with unlimited meat and drinks.
The restaurant welcomed us with the smoky aroma of grilling meat. We dove into the feast, grilling an assortment of cuts at our table, each bite bursting with flavor.
Beyond the food, the night was about bonding. We swapped stories from our Kyoto exploits, laughed over biking blunders, and raised glasses to new memories. The lively Dotonbori vibe amplified our joy, making it a perfect end to an action-packed day.
