Championship at the Grand Prix Metaverse Autonomous Driving Challenge 2023

With much pleasure, I would like to share with you the good news that our team, FSM Speed, supervised by Prof Wang Jianping and led by PhD student Deng Jinghuai, has emerged as the Championship at the Grand Prix Metaverse Autonomous Driving Challenge 2023. The team also included PhD student Hu Haibo, BSc Computer Science students Wang Jinjie and Wang Shenglin and BEng Computer and Data Engineering student Kong Ko Lun.

The competition involved a virtual race system based on the Macau Grand Prix circuit. Participants are tasked to apply their knowledge in areas such as intelligent control, machine vision, lidar, SLAM and ROS robot operating system in order to code the autonomous self-driving robots. Despite the high unpredictability of the simulation environment, FSM Speed managed to triumph by enhancing various rescue control algorithms. Remarkably, FSM Speed finished the race in 40% less than the time taken by the second and third teams.

The team received a cash prize of MOP3,000 and was invited to the award presentation at the 5th International Conference on High Performance Big Data and Intelligent Systems in Macau on 8 December 2023.
