Dear Prof. Chun,

I am Jeff PEI,Yuanteng, an exchange student from Wuhan University who have sat in your Web Usability Course for a couple of times (yet not formally registered) and am fascinated by the search engine optimization.

Your eXtreme Web Designer Contest is obviously intriguing to me and I have setup the site I would like to participate in your SEO eXtreme Web Designer Contest.
The problem is that not until the day before yesterday did I know about this contest when I was roaming in your web site.

Despite of the fact that the deadline is within 48 hours I determined to have a try, for the golden practice opportunity and the dazzling award.

I have started this at 11a.m. yesterday and have completed it by now. Yet the search engine has not yet recognized me. I was wondering whether or not I will be admitted in the final.

My site is located at: http://iwonder.diy.myrice.com/SEO.html

To be frank, I have definitely encountered several stumbles and they almost set me back, first the Ads in the free webpage system is not conform to the Xhtml1.1. I fortunately altered this site to be not the index.html to avoid the Ads. After that I found the Site Score system respond very slowly to my page, probably due to the server is in Mainland China. That’s sth I have to face the music. Last but not least I realize that for the new pages it is extremely hard to cultivate links with others and become recognized by Yahoo or Goggle.

So even though I thought I precariously designed my page complying with the SEO and registered by myself, so the Yahoo and Google are not agile and rapid enough to include my page. One month later I guess it will be fine.

Yet compared to the top ranking Hackers’ websites on Yahoo and Google, I suppose my site has its own features as follows:

Including S5, Simple Standards-Based Slide Show System and the Tiddywiki, with the State-of-the-Art technology
Build the website in Wiki way, user-friendly
With no forms and tables, all layout are done by CSS effectively elimilate loading time
Comply with Xhtml1.1 and CSS
Apply most of the possible rules for the SEO
The content is well-organized and keeps consistency

At : http://iwonder.diy.myrice.com/SEO.html

At one time I was on the verge of quitting this contest and will not think about being the winners, as your rule is to get the Top in search engine, yet since I have devoted so much and almost accomplished, and it seems there are not so many competitors, why not keep trying for the last chance?

Consequently I wrote this letter and inquire whether you would concern me in the final. Whatever the result might be, I will accept it sincerely and through this entire day designing and burning the midnight oil process I did learn a lot.

Your gratefully,
Jeff PEI,Yuanteng
