About the Workshop

Generative and agentic AI systems are beginning to participate in research activities that once seemed to require sustained human expertise: surveying literature, proposing definitions, generating conjectures and algorithms, searching for counterexamples, producing proof sketches, writing code, formalizing arguments, and drafting papers. This workshop asks what these developments mean for real-time scheduling research.

The main focus is scheduling theory and schedulability analysis: the discovery and validation of models, algorithms, schedulability tests, lower bounds, reductions, approximation results, and hardness classifications. The workshop examines both opportunity and risk — how AI can accelerate scheduling-theory research, and how generated results can be checked and trusted, especially in safety-critical engineering settings.

Primary outcome. A community agenda for trustworthy use of generative and agentic AI in real-time scheduling research, including recommendations for authors, reviewers, artifact evaluators, educators, and tool builders.

Themes & Questions

AI-assisted discovery

Can generative AI help identify tractable special cases, synthesize scheduling algorithms, construct counterexamples, discover dominance arguments, find reductions, or suggest approximation results?

Verification of generated claims

What evidence should be required before trusting an AI-produced analysis, proof, recurrence, or hardness result? Proof assistants, executable models, and independent replication.

Research integrity & reviewing

How should AI involvement be disclosed, how should reviewers protect confidential manuscripts, and how should PCs respond to polished but weak generated arguments?

Broader RTSS systems implications

How do these questions change when scheduling theory is embedded in scheduler code, timing-analysis tools, experiments, certification evidence, and safety cases?

Call for Papers

We invite short contributions in IEEE conference format. Submissions should be 2–4 pages and may take the form of position statements, experience reports, provocations, case studies, and evidence-based cautionary notes. Submissions will be lightly reviewed for relevance, clarity, grounding in evidence or experience, and capacity to stimulate discussion. No formal proceeding will be published.

Format & Program

This will be a full-day workshop favoring concrete cases and structured discussion over a conventional sequence of full research-paper presentations. Invited presentations and a panel discussion will complement short selected talks on successes, failure modes, results, tools, data sets, and proposed norms. The workshop will conclude with a discussion session to prioritize actions and research questions and to define a follow-up agenda.
