TOPIC:  ICT Innovations for Telematics

KEYNOTE SPEAKER :   Yi-Bing Lin

Telematics integrates telecommunications and informatics to provide ICT (Information and Communications Technology) services. By applying GPS and mobile communications technologies, telematics supports vehicle-based applications such as automotive navigation systems. Several wireless communications technologies can be utilized for Telematics, including VANET (Vehicular Ad-hoc NETwork), 2G, 3G, GPS, WiFi, WiMAX, DVB-T, DVB-H, and so on. Two major goals for vehicle-based Telematics are safety (e.g., to reduce crashes) and efficiency (e.g., to reduce congestion). In this talk, we introduce existing commercial Telematics services for safety and efficiency, and describe some ICT technologies for Telematics. Then we investigate the mobility management issues for wireless systems (such as WiMAX) that support Telematics applications.

Yi-Bing Lin (Taiwan) is Dean and Chair professor of College of Computer Science, National Chiao Tung University (NCTU).
