Personal Profile

Kai-Pan Mark received his Master of Science degree in Information Engineering from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2007, Bachelor of Science degree with Upper Second Class Honours and Associate of Science degree with Distinction, both in Computer Studies, from City University of Hong Kong in 2005 and 2002 respectively. At present, he is a PhD Candidate and Senior Research Assistant in the Department of Information Systems, City University of Hong Kong under the supervision of Professor Douglas R. Vogel.

Mr. Mark has been serving in the ICT field since he was in secondary school. Since secondary schooling ages, he has been working in the Hong Kong School Net, a project under the Department of Information Engineering of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, under the supervision of Professor P.C. Wong. Mr. Mark was first appointed as a Junior Research Assistant in 2000. He continued to remain an active helper after commencing his university studies.

During his studies in City University, Mr. Mark worked in the Universityˇ¦s Computing Services Centre as a student helper from 2001 to 2004. From September 2002 to January 2003, he was seconded to the Student Residence Office for on-site support of student residence network. He loves Hong Kong School Net so much that he also took up a concurrent appointment as a Technical Assistant in School Net from October 2002 to February 2003. After returning to the Computing Services Centre in January 2003, he published a few user guides on the student hostel network. He also worked as a freelance technical writer and course trainer for CitySoft (HK) Ltd, an associated company of City University.

After obtaining his Bachelor's degree, Mr. Mark served as a Project Technical Assistant in English Language Centre, Hong Kong Polytechnic University from January 2005 to February 2005. He then worked as a Research Assistant in the Department of Computer Science, City University of Hong Kong under the supervision of Dr. Duncan S. Wong for one semester on a lightweight cryptography project.

Prior to returning CityU for his research studies, Mr. Mark hold an appointment as Assistant Technical Officer & Tutor in the Department of Computing, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University from August 2005 to June 2007. He has taught a wide range of courses including customer relationship management, information systems management, introductory computing courses, networking, project methodologies, systems analysis and design, and various programming courses. Apart from teaching, he also took up a concurrent appointment in the Educational Development Centre as a Project Associate in 2006 for a research project on teaching systems analysis and design with constructive alignment approach.

Currently, Mr. Mark is a PhD Candidate in Department of Information Systems, and also a Teaching Assistant in Education Development Office at City University of Hong Kong. He also serves as the Vice Chairman in IEEE Education Society Hong Kong Chapter. His research area is knowledge management and ICT in education.
