I am looking for student who want my supervision on final year projects in two areas: (1) information retrieval (see www.cs.cityu.edu.hk/~lwang/ccs4485.html) (2) Internet applications and (3) Data mining. Interesting persons should contact Dr. Lusheng Wang at 27889828 e-mail lwang@cs.cityu.edu.hk (office Y6429) The folowing are two examples: (1) Title: Intelligence Internet Search Engine Problem: when using search engines, one gets lots of useless results. How to automatically select usefull results? Objective: Aim at building a system that can obtain the results that the user wants. Method: Learning by examples. After search, the user looks at some (very few) web pages and tells which one is good and which one is bad. Then some math methods will be used to quickly improve the quality of the search. (I have very concrete ideas and am sure that this will lead to a good system.) (2) Title: Web-based data mining using uncertainty reasoning Objective: Generate/Systhesis rules using a method I developed. The method is powerful and easy to understand. Some other possible topics are: 1. Information Retrivial on Internet use information retrivial techniques to get high quality query results 2. Computational Chemistry on internet We have a nice (but not too hard) algorithm to design chemical moelculars and want to implement the algorithm on internet using Java. We need a nice interface. 3. Other topics, like internet security, etc are also O.K. 4. Bioinformatics I (Distinguishing String selection peoblem) 5. Bioinformatics II (Consensus pattern problem) We use Java to implement a system on internet (web). 6. Bioinformatics III (Closest string and Substring problem) We use Java to implement a system on internet (web). See http://www.cs.cityu.edu.hk/~lwang/software/index.html
