2008 OITAA Awards
I received two 2008 Outstanding IT Achiever Awards (OITAA) from the Hong Kong Computer Society. The OITAA is the first of its kind in HK to recognize individual achievements in IT. You can read more about it in the CityU Press Release.

Science Lectures - HK Science Museum
The Hong Kong Science Museum has a "Science Lecture" series to introduce various topics in science and engineering to the general public. I'm giving one of these talks in 23 Aug 2008 (Sat) 2:30-4pm. It is titled: Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Its Applications in Hong Kong

2008 IAAI Award
I received a 2008 Innovative Applications of AI (IAAI) Award from the Association for the Advancement of AI (AAAI). The award was presented in the yearly IAAI conference, which was held in Chicago this year. This award was for an AI volunteer management system that I developed to support the trial testing of the HK Equestrian Events, which was part of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Science Museum Exhibit
The Hong Kong Science Museum has a Science News Corner dedicated to exhibiting university research projects. For the next three months, the entire Science News Corner will be dedicated to my exhibit on Artificial Intelligence with a case study on how it is apply for scheduling at MTR. The exhibit runs till end of October 2008.

Just got news that the Workforce Management System I created for the Hong Kong Equestrian Events (part of the 2008 Beijing Olympics) will be receiving an "2008 Innovative Application of AI Award" from the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence in July 2008!

The HK Immigration Department won the Gold Award for Best Business (Application) Award in the 2007 HK ICT Awards competition for its electronic passport system which uses our "AI Engine."

Nominated by the HK Computer Society
My "AI Engine" framework that is being used by the MTR and the HK Immigration Department is being nominated by the Hong Kong Computer Society to join in the 2007 Asia Pacific ICT Awards competition in Singapore in Nov 2007. APICTA has 16 member countries/economies. Only the local IT/communications organization within each country can nominate projects for this international competition.

My FYP Student Vicker Wins APICTA Award!
My FYP student Vicker Leung won another major award. It is a Certificate of Merit from the 2006 Asia-Pacific ICT Awards in the category of "Tertiary Student Project." The competition was high. APICTA is opened to 16 economies in this region. This year, 18 teams competed in the student project category with 3 teams from HK. CityU is the only University from HK to win an award for student projects!

Working with M.H. KO of the CS Lab, we won an Excellent Award for Web Care - Hong Kong's main award for website accessibility. CityU is the only University to receive an Excellent Award.

My Student Vicker Leung Wins First Prize!
One of my Final Year Project students, Mr. Vicker Leung, won the "First Class Award" for the 2006 Pan-Pearl River Delta Region University IT Project Competition and also the "The Best Practicality Award" and "The Best Response Award". His project is a Flash development toolkit called FLABER.

We Won 2005 APICTA Award!
The AI scheduling system I did for MTR won the 2005 APICTA Award for Industrial Applications. This year over 170 projects from 18 countries/economies competed for roughly 15 awards! The award was presented to us at Chiang Mai, Thailand on 19 Feb 2006.

AI for Immigration Department
All the major newspapers in Hong Kong are reporting on the AI system I am developing for the Hong Kong Immigration Department (for example Wen Wei Po). This will be the first time in the world that AI is used to automatically process and approve application forms for immigration departments. My AI software will handle over 100 types of application forms using business rules, case-based reasoning and self-learning.
