Project Themes
I have created a few longer term research project themes that FYP/masters students can contribute to. These themes are aimed at creating a larger system and will require more than one student to complete spanning several years; each student will only design and develop a module or component within this system.
Technologies for Mission-Critical Applications
This project theme is to develop a set of sophisticated technologies to
support mission critical application deveopment. Mission critical
applications have rigid performance and reliability requirements, demanding
special software technologies and architectures. Most often,
mission critical applications will require some form of AI processing.
For this theme, I would like all development to be in C# so that components
can be shared.
The following are some examples of FYP/masters topic areas that you can
contribute to:
- High-Performance Web-based Graphics - perform research and development into server-side graphics and SVG generation.
- High-end GUI Components - design and implement high-end GUI components to support mission-critical applications, such as project charts, grids, and gantt.
- Complex Adaptive Algorithms - perform research and development in algorithms to support complex adaptive behaviors.
- AI Algorithm Implementation - perform research and development in AI algorithms for scheduling and optimization, such as constraint programming.
- OCL and XML Technologies - perform research and development in using OCL and XML as an AI programming language.
- Robust Mission Critical Architectures - perform research and development in Web-based load balancing and fault-tolerant architectures.
Enterprise Platform for Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing
This project theme is to develop a set of sophisticated technologies to
support enterprise collaboration and knowledge sharing. This project theme
involves R&D in many forefront Web-based technologies. Development will
be in traditional LAMP architecture.
The following are some examples of FYP/masters topic areas that you can
contribute to:
- P2P Technologies - perform research and development on the effectiveness on using P2P as a technology for collaboration.
- Weblog Technologies - investigate how weblog technologies can be improved to support collaboration and knowledge sharing.
- Wiki Technologies - investigate how to build upon wiki technologies to improved knowledge sharing for KMS.
- Semantic Web Technologies - investigate how XML, RDF, and semantic web technologies can assist with knowledge sharing.
