THE CITY OF HONG KONG
Hong Kong is a modern, highly dynamic city where East and West meet.   The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region covers approximately 1,000 square kilometres and comprises Hong Kong Island, the Kowloon Peninsula, the New Territories, and around 400 outlying islands.  It has a population of more than 6 million people, 98% of whom are Chinese.  Cantonese is the major language while English is widely used.    During July, the weather is hot, sunny and humid with average temperatures ranging from 25șC to 30șC.

Hong Kong is located on the southeastern coast of China and is served by several airlines including Air Canada,  Air France, British Airways, Canadian Airlines, Cathay Pacific Airways, Delta Airlines, Japan Airlines, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Lufthansa German Airlines, Northwest Airlines, Scandinavian Airlines System, United Airlines and Virgin Atlantic Airways.

VISA REQUIREMENTS
Please contact your local Chinese Embassy for information regarding visas for Hong Kong and Mainland China.  For more information, please visit the Hong Kong Government,  Immigration Department Visa/Entry Requirements web page.  No visas are required to enter Hong Kong for American, Australian, British, Canadian and French passport holders.  However, a visa will be required for any trips to Mainland China.  Arrangements can generally be made for the issue of these visas in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong has a good, fast and efficient public transport system.   Also taxis are cheap, reliable and plentiful.  The new International Airport at Chek Lap Kok is well connected to all areas in Hong Kong, Kowloon and the New Territories by transportation such as the Airport Express Line, Airport Bus and Taxis.

The venue of the workshop at City University of Hong Kong is well located, just a few minutes walk to the Mass Transit Railway (MTR) and Kowloon-Canton Railway (KCR) interchange station in Kowloon Tong.  From here it is about 20 minutes by the MTR (south bound) to Central Hong Kong or 45 minutes (north bound) by the KCR to mainland China.

From Hotels to CityU

If you are coming by MTR or KCR, get off at Kowloon Tong Station. Take the City University exit (Exit C and then Exit C2) which leads you to the Festival Walk Shopping Complex. Go up to Level LG1 lobby and find the escalator (next to Shop LG1 - 09) which will take you to one end of the CityU underpass. When you emerge from it, CityU's main entrance is right in front of you.

If you are coming by Taxi.  Ask the taxi driver to take you to City University, Tat Chee Avenue, Yau Yat Tsuen, Kowloon; and drop you off at the University Circle. When you get off the taxi, you are right in front of the Academic Building.
