  • Dr. Tan is an Associate Professor at the City University Hong Kong. He received the M.A and Ph.D. degrees from Princeton University. Previously, he was a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Rigorous Systems Research Group at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). He has worked at Fraser Research Lab and Qualcomm R&D (QRC). He is currently serving as an Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Communications and an Editor for the IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking.

    His research interests include networks, statistical inference in data analytics, graph analytics, cyber security, probabilistic machine learning, information theory, optimization theory and its applications, and personalized learning technologies. His Erdös number is 3.

    Dr. Tan received the Princeton University Gordon Wu Prize for Excellence and was twice selected to participate at the U.S. National Academy of Engineering China-America Frontiers of Engineering Symposium in 2013 and 2015. His research has been featured in Hong Kong Research Grants Council's Research Frontiers. He was the Chairman of the IEEE Information Theory Society Hong Kong Chapter, during which he led the chapter to win the 2015 IT Society Chapter of the Year award.
