We are pleased to announce that the Sixth International Workshop on
Graphics Recognition (GREC’2005), organized by IAPR TC-10 (Technical Committee
on Graphics Recognition), will be held at the City University of Hong Kong, Hong
Kong on August 25-26, 2005, just before the 8th International Conference on
Document Analysis and Recognition (ICDAR), Seoul, Korea. The GREC workshops
provide an excellent opportunity for researchers and practitioners at all
levels of experience to meet colleagues and to share new ideas and knowledge about graphics recognition methods.
Graphics recognition is a subfield of document image analysis that deals with
graphical entities in engineering drawings, maps, architectural plans, musical
scores, mathematical notation, tables, diagrams, etc. GREC'05 will continue the
tradition of the following past workshops:
o
GREC'95 in University Park,
Pennsylvania, USA, August, 1995, LNCS Volume 1072, Springer, 1996.
o
GREC'97 in Nancy, France,
August, 1997, LNCS Volume 1389, Springer, 1998.
o
GREC'99 in Jaipur, India, August, 1999, LNCS Volume 1941, Springer,
2000.
o
GREC’01 in Kingston, Ontario,
Canada, Sep. 7-8, 2001. LNCS Volume 2390, Springer, 2002.
o
GREC’03 in Barcelona, Spain, July
30-31, 2003. LNCS Volume 3088, Springer, 2004.
In addition, since this will be
GREC’s 10th anniversary, more exciting
programs and events will also be considered.
Location
The City University of Hong Kong is located at one of
the city centers, with convenient and efficient public transportation to almost
all important sites in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong airport is a top 5 transfer
center of transportation in Asia. There are more than 10 direct flights
everyday between Hong Kong and Seoul, run by Korean, Asiana,
Cathay Pacific, etc. A normal flight takes about 2.5-3 hours.
Workshop Format
The program will be organized in a single-track 2-day
workshop. It will comprise several sessions dedicated to specific topics. For
each session, there will be an invited presentation describing the state of the
art and stating the open questions for the session's topic, followed by a
number of short presentations that will contribute by proposing solutions to
some of the questions or presenting results of the speaker's work. Each session
will be concluded by a panel discussion.
Topics
The topics of interest include, but are not limited
to:
Paper Submission
Extended abstracts of maximum two pages have to be
sent through the workshop web site. Afterwards, authors of accepted abstracts
will be asked to send the full paper. The full text of all contributed papers
will be available in proceedings distributed at the workshop. After the
workshop, the program committee plans to publish revised versions of selected
papers as an LNCS Volume, Springer Verlag.
As at the past workshops, we plan to continue some
kinds of contests on graphics recognition at GREC'2005. Currently we have the
two candidates:
Anyway, we are still open to other suggestions. Anyone
who wants to run similar or other contest please contact the workshop chairs.
