In the Event of Fire
  1. Remain calm
  2. Alert persons nearby by shouting "Fire".
  3. Evacuate the immediately threatened area.
  4. Break the fire alarm glass
  5. Make an immediate attack on the fire if safe to do so.
  6. Close doors to isolate fire and smoke.
  7. Exit the building.
  8. Do not re-enter the building until clearance is given.

In the Event of Internal Disaster

Contamination of the Environment, Leakage of Gases, Explosion, etc.

  1. Remain calm
  2. Alert person nearby.
  3. Evacuate the immediately threatened area.
  4. Summon laboratory technician giving details of
  5. Do not re-enter the threatened area until clearance is given.

In the Event of Medical
  1. Assess the situation. If condition of the casualty appears to be complex, dial 0-999 for an ambulance first.
  2. Contact the CityU Health Center Ext. 8022 for advice giving details of your observations.
  3. Send the person to seek immediate medical attention at the CityU Health Center if he/ she can be moved. (If the injury has resulted from a fall, do not move the person).
  4. Accompany the person to Hospital if further investigation at casualty is recommended by medical staff of CityU Health Center.

In the Event of Electrical Injuries
  1. Do not touch the casualty's flesh with your hands if he/ she is suspected of being electrocuted.
  2. Break the contact (i.e. by standing on a wooden box or a rubber/ plastic mat and using a broom on wooden chair to push the casualty's limbs away from the source).
  3. Immediately commence cardiopulmonary resuscitation if you know how to do it and confirm that heart and breathing has stopped.

In the Event of Ionizing Radiation

A. Machine producing ionizing radiation

  1. Switch off machine to eliminate radiation source.
  2. Record estimates of your times and positions of exposure.
  3. Record conditions of machine operation (e.g. kV, mA)
  4. Seek further advice.

B. Contamination by radioactive material

  1. Remain alone in laboratory until monitoring and decontamination arrangements can be made.
  2. Immediately begin simple decontamination action
  3. Alert persons nearby to contact radiation protection officer.

Regulations

For every CS students and registered users, they must obey the laboratory regulations when using the facilities.

Everyone shall have the rights to protect resources of the Department. If you have found someone violating any items stated in Laboratory Regulations, please report to staff-on-duty. We will keep everything anonymous.

CS LAB is opened to CS staff, students and authorized users only. If any suspicious non-authorized person is found in CS LAB, please report to any staff-on-duty immediately. We will keep everything anonymous.

It may be necessary for the staff in the CS LAB to access your account without your knowledge to investigate suspected abuse. Since it can be impossible to distinguish a regular project from potential abuse, you may be asked to come forward to explain your actions.

CS LAB staff may require users to show their identity card at any time to verify they are authorized users of the Lab. Those who fail or refuse to show their ID will be requested to leave the LAB IMMEDIATELY.

All users of the Computer Science Laboratory should study the following regulation carefully.

  1. Users must not disclose their computer account password to any other person, or allow account access by any trusting method under any circumstances, e.g., ".rhosts" in UNIX.
  2. Users must not access any information or computing resources to which the access right is not granted.
  3. Users should never attempt to intrude the computer systems or access other people's computer account.
  4. Users must not damage any computing facilities.
  5. Users must not change the configuration of the workstations or the PCs without the approval of the staff of CS LAB.
  6. Users must behave themselves in the CS LAB.
  7. Users must not copy proprietary software.
  8. Users must return any resources of the CS LAB that they borrow on time.
  9. Users must not turn off any workstation without authorization in any circumstance. If they have problem with the machines, they should approach the staff-on-duty.
  10. Users should not use the telephone line inside CS LAB without authorization.
  11. Users must not drink, eat, smoke or play games or music in the CS LAB.
  12. Users should keep quiet in the laboratory area.
  13. Users should not bring in valuable belongings into CS LAB. The CS LAB will not be responsible for such belongings.
  14. Users are not allowed to sit on the benches inside CS LAB.
  15. Users should report any problem in the CS LAB to the staff-on-duty.
  16. Users should keep the CS LAB tidy.
  17. Users should not leave any computer, book or equipment unattended.
  18. Users should always logout after using the computers.
  19. Users should always keep the exit clear.
