EE5910 Principles of Communications

Course Aims & Objectives:

This course is aimed at providing a solid review of the principles of transmission systems in the context of data communication, and to develop an understanding of the properties and limitations of techniques in common use. 

On completion of this course students should be able to: 

i/    understand the presentation of signals in time and frequency domains;

ii/   understand the techniques of analogue and digital transmission;

iii/  understand the effects of noise and errors in transmission and techniques for error detection and recovery;

iv/  understand the principles of major data communication devices and their applications;

v/   understand the principles of data link protocols and issues.
