CS6483 Mobile Multimedia Systems
Course Aims & Objectives: This course aims to introduce the concepts and the important issues in the design of mobile multimedia systems. Upon completion, students should be able to design simple mobile multimedia systems and evaluate the impact of different issues on the performance of mobile multimedia systems.

Keyword Syllabus: Overview of multimedia technologies. QoS mobile communication and distributed multimedia systems. Architecture and issues for distributed multimedia systems. Real-time requirements in multimedia systems. Scheduling and policing mechanisms. RTP, RTSP, and RSVP. Mobile cellular systems. Wireless LAN. Wireless channel characteristics. Multiple access schemes. Mobility management. Handoff issues. Delay guarantee for multimedia communication in mobile environment.
Teaching Pattern: Duration of course: 1 semester Current mix of lecture/tutorial/laboratory, other: 2 hrs. lecture; 1 hr. tutorial.
Assessment Pattern: Examination duration: 2 hours Percentage distribution of marks for coursework, examination, other: 40% CW; 60% Exam Grading pattern: Standard (A+AA-...F) For a student to pass the course, at least 30% of the maximum mark for the examination must be obtained.
