CS6482 Topics on Data Engineering

Course Aims & Objectives:
This course examines data engineering for different forms of data and for different levels of complexity. The course provides an understanding of the conceptual models of data in the systems examined, together with an examination of appropriate query and data manipulation languages, storage strategies, optimization strategies and processing technology used in the systems. Systems discussed include hierarchical, network, relation, object-oriented and free text systems. The course is a topics based course and will be adjusted to the interests and needs of the students.

Current mix of lecture/tutorial/laboratory, other: 2 hrs. lecture; 1 hr. tutorial.

Assessment Pattern:
Examination duration: 2 hours
Percentage distribution of marks for coursework, examination, other: 70% CW; 30% Exam
Grading pattern: Standard (A+AA-...F)
For a student to pass the course, at least 30% of the maximum mark for the examination must be obtained.
