Course Aims & Objectives: This course provides students with the development skills in Multimedia System development. On the completion of the course, students should be able to: select the appropriate hardware & software for multimedia development; develop multimedia coursewares; evaluate different designs. Units: 3 Level: P6 Medium of Instruction: EnglishKeyword Syllabus: Sound: Audio file formats MIDI; Images: Color models; Color Palettes; Image compression; Image file formats; Principles of animation; Animation techniques; Creating animated scenes; Broadcast video standards; Video Capture; Recording format; Video Compression; Basic Tools: Image editing; Sound Editing; Interactive video production; Image capturing; Programming multimedia system; Authoring systems. Teaching Pattern: Duration of course: 1 semesters Current mix of lecture/tutorial/laboratory, other: 2 hrs. lecture; 1 hr. tutorial. Assessment Pattern: Examination duration: 2 hours Percentage distribution of marks for coursework, examination, other: 40% CW, 60% Exam Grading pattern: Standard (A+AA-...F) For a student to pass the course, at least 30% of the maximum mark for the examination must be obtained.
