The Department of Computer Science of the Faculty of Science and Engineering is a major site of computing study programmes in Hong Kong, producing over 150 graduates per year ranging from BSc to Ph.D levels. It has over 30 academic staff with expertise in various areas: Computer Networks, Distributed Systems, Software Engineering, Knowledge and Data Engineering, Multimedia Technologies, and Information Security. Department staff are active in research and industrial projects and well connected to the international academic communities. The Department provides an excellent learning environment for students, and continually attracts prominent visiting scholars, including 2 Turing Awards winners. The Department is also host to R&D Centres related to eCommerce, including the Centre for Innovative and Multimedia Technologies and the Internet Security & PKI Application Centre.

The Department of Information Systems of the Faculty of Business is the largest of its kind in Hong Kong and one of the largest in the world, with expertise in managerial, behavioral, legal and other specializations. It has more than 600 students pursuing undergraduate and advanced degree programmes in Information Systems and Electronic Commerce up to PhD level. The department has over 20 full-time teaching members of staff; many of those have an international reputation in their specialist areas. The Department works closely with the information technology industry, commerce and government to enrich its work and ensure its relevance. The Department is committed to good teaching with staff winning Teaching Excellent Awards for consecutive years.
