Full time Programme
The purpose of this web page is to help you, as BBA students, to make an informed choice on your external minor. We believe that Computing minor is a right choice for you, as you will learn many things relating to computer. This will augment your current major and will better arm yourself for a brighter business career in the future. The current business environment in Hong Kong is already one of high-level computerization. The business world that you will enter in a few years will only be more so in the use of computers. Additional computer knowledge and skills that you will have mastered with a Computing minor will give you an added advantage in competing with other fellow university graduates.
Aims
The Computing minor aims to broaden your horizon in the
rapidly advancing computer field in order to make you more competitive in the
business world. To achieve this, you will learn a variety of subjects related
to computer. On completion of the minor, you will appreciate the more recent
developments in Information technology and will be more capable to pick up job
positions that employ computer and information technology.
Special Features
The Computing minor is practice-oriented, covering programming,
use of software package and case study. It covers a wide range of disciplines
within the computer science field, including internet, database, software engineering,
etc. Another special feature is that the course contents are updated in coverage.
This includes, for examples, new development in internet applications and modern
programming language for business applications.
Career Prospect
Computing minor students can work in many computer-related
jobs that employ computer and information technology. This includes business
analyst, end-user specialist, or even junior programmer. In this year, you may
have heard of university graduates who are still unemployed six months after
their graduation. This is not so in the information technology field. Computer
professionals are in demand, even under current economic downturns.
Expectation from the Minor
The Computing minor assumes students to have no prior
background in programming or computing. No mathematics is required, though a
small portion of theoretical contents will also be covered. Students, however,
should be willing to study technical materials as Computing is basically a science-oriented
(and engineering) discipline.
